Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center is at 1013 Lafayette Blvd. (US 1) on the Sunken Road. The center presents a 22-minute film and museum exhibits about the battle that occurred on Dec. 13, 1862. Walking trails lead to the Sunken Road, Marye’s Heights and the Fredericksburg National Cemetery. A 5-mile driving tour starts and ends at the center, covering the majority of the battlefield. Historians lead seasonal walking tours along the Sunken Road. Guided tours are available.
Park admission free. Film $2; $1 (ages 62+); free (ages 0-9). CD detailing a 3-hour self-guiding tour $12.95 (to purchase); $4.95 (plus $20 deposit to rent).
Hours: Grounds daily dawn-dusk. Visitor center hours vary. Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Phone ahead to confirm schedule. Allow 1 hour minimum.
