The room had a strange smell, kind of old and musty. The carpet was fraying around the entrance and other places. Paint was peeling from the ceiling in areas. The shampoo bottle was obviously used, not new. There was mold in areas around the tub. The furnishings in the room were very worn/dated like the dresser, end tables, and damaged main seating table. Cheap microwave stacked on top of a mini-fridge that was on top of an old wooden stool. Old/cheap electronics like the tv, phone, and alarm clock. The room entrance door was very hard to open for me as an adult, my kids couldn't do it at all (another sign of wear and age). The pool was very cold for the middle of summer. The pool was TOO deep for small children. My daughter is six and can swim but had to tread water the whole time because she could barely touch the bottom. This is not a good thing for parents of children who want to swim. The pool deck was very slippery, saw a man slip and fall when getting out of the pool, we were slipping around when walking across it. The pool was not very clean. The water was clear but there was a lot of buildup (scum) on the pool surfaces like the bottom and sides, and scum on the tile around the edge of the entire pool. You had to enter the room from the outside, no interior hallways. The exterior room entrances reminded me of hotel/motels I stayed in as a child in the 80s. The hot breakfast was poorly stocked and with poor ingredients. The butter for example was separated and oily inside its package as if it was partly melted, only it was still chilled. The waffle maker didn't work well, sometimes the timer worked, sometimes not, waffles never came out right for me and other guests I observed. The outdoor standing ashtray by our room was full (we're non-smokers). I turned around and caught my 2 year old pulling a cigarette butt out of the top of it.
Pros: It was a good location. My kids enjoyed their stay. It was their first time staying in a "hotel" so their expectations were definitely met. The AC in the room worked. It was quiet. The staff was friendly.
Cons: Room smelled old/musty. Tub was not very clean/mold. USED shampoo botl. Pool cold for middle of summer, too deep for children 4 & 6. Carpet tattered/frayed in areas. Breakfast items were not good (separated/oily butter in packets) waffle maker was broken.
Very Good
Pros: Very surprising experience. Assumed, since it was a Best Western, that it'd be a creepy dump. Room was clean, updated, with king size bed and large TV. Little details like bubling wallpaper here & there, but overall hugely exceeded my expectations.
Cons: Though it was nice to have complimentary breakfast, and some of the offerings were just fine, they might want to consider investing in some higher quality coffee and not serving eggs...or egg jello...still not sure exactly what the egg-like substance was.
Overall nice place to stay.
Pros: Breakfast was great. Staff was friendly.
Cons: The room felt damp.
Very Good
