Sandy Bottom Nature Park, off I-64 at 1255 Big Bethel Rd., offers a fishing pier, boat rentals, a 12-mile multipurpose trail system, primitive campsites and tent cabins. The nature center, which overlooks Sandy Bottom Lake, houses wildlife exhibits. The 456-acre wetlands site also offers observation platforms and an observation tower, a playground and a demonstration garden. Pets on leash are allowed. Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
Grounds free. Fees are charged for camping and other activities.
Hours: Daily dawn-dusk. Nature center daily 9-6, May-Sept.; 9-4:30, rest of year. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas.
