Barrier Islands Center on Virginia’s Eastern Shore is at 7295 Young St. Exhibits and artifacts depict significant events, landmarks and people who played a role in the history of the state’s barrier islands. The museum is in a restored 19th-century building on the Historic Almshouse Farm, which was established in 1803 to care for the destitute. The popular Art and Music on the Farm festival is held Memorial Day weekend.
