Hungry Mother State Park is 4 mi. n. on SR 16. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) began work on this state park and five others in 1933. Opening ceremonies for the six-park Virginia State Park System were held on June 13, 1936, at Hungry Mother. Displays about the CCC are on-site. The 3,334-acre park includes 12 miles of hiking trails; bicycling, swimming, fishing, canoeing and kayaking also can be enjoyed.
Interpretive programs and food are available seasonally.
