Hungry Mother State Park is 4 mi. n. on SR 16. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) began work on this state park and five others in 1933. Opening ceremonies for the six-park Virginia State Park System were held on June 13, 1936, at Hungry Mother. Displays about the CCC are on-site. The 3,334-acre park includes 12 miles of hiking trails; bicycling, swimming, fishing, canoeing and kayaking also can be enjoyed.
Interpretive programs and food are available seasonally.
Pets on leash are allowed. Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted. Food is available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
