Virginia Museum of Natural History is at 21 Starling Ave. This state-of-the-art facility offers walk-through exhibits and hands-on experiences relating to the natural world and Virginia’s ancient past. A collection of fossils includes a towering allosaurus skeleton and re-creations of important geologic sites. A behind-the-scenes look at research projects and objects in storage lets visitors see how a natural history museum works.

$7; $5 (ages 3-18, ages 60+ and students and military with ID).
Hours: Mon.-Sat. 9-5, Sun. 1-5, Memorial Day weekend-Labor Day weekend; Mon.-Sat. 9-5, rest of year. Last admission 30 minutes before closing. Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Allow 2 hours minimum.
