AAA Editor Notes
Belle Grove Plantation is 1 mi. s. on US 11, then .5 mi. w. on Belle Grove Rd. Maj. Isaac Hite Jr. acquired the 483-acre parcel in 1783, the same year he married Nelly Conway Madison, sister of the future president. During the Civil War, Union troops repeatedly occupied the estate, which was the focus of the Battle of Cedar Creek in October 1864. On the grounds of the 1797 limestone manor house are gardens, orchards, an overseer’s house, original outbuildings and a cemetery for enslaved workers.

Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
