George Washington's Distillery & Gristmill is at 5514 Mount Vernon Memorial Hwy., in a small park 3.1 mi. w. of George Washington's Mount Vernon. Demonstrations by costumed distillers take visitors through the historic process of whiskey making in this reconstruction of what is reputedly the largest 18th-century distillery in America.
The distillery is adjacent to the reconstructed gristmill, a water-powered mill where guides in period garb grind corn into meal and wheat into flour just as it was done by millers more than 200 years ago. Together, these buildings showcase Washington’s entrepreneurship and his vision for the nation's future.
Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted.
