USS Monitor Center is at The Mariners’ Museum at 100 Museum Dr. The facility houses such artifacts as the gun turret and the steam engine from the USS Monitor, an ironclad warship that came head to head with the CSS Virginia during the Battle of Hampton Roads. Videos depict the personal experiences of crew members, while interactive exhibits allow visitors to build their own ironclad warship, maneuver a sailing frigate in battle, walk through re-creations of the Monitor’s living quarters and feel the action of the Civil War skirmish in the Battle Theater. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
