Norfolk Botanical Garden is next to Norfolk International Airport at 6700 Azalea Garden Rd. The 175-acre garden includes one of the largest collections of azaleas, camellias, rhododendrons and roses on the East Coast and features more than 52 themed gardens and natural areas. The climate-controlled Tropical Pavilion houses over 100 varieties of plants from tropical regions around the world. Visitors may tour the gardens by foot on more than 12 miles of pathways; guided tours are offered aboard trams. A 45-minute narrated boat tour and a 3-acre interactive children's garden with water features also are available. Guided tours are available. Food is available.

Hours: Grounds daily 9-7, Apr. 1-Oct. 15; 9-5, rest of year. Children’s garden daily 9:30-6:30, Apr. 1-Oct. 15; 9:30-4:30, rest of year. Tram tours are offered Mon.-Fri. every hour 10-4, Sat.-Sun. every half-hour 10-4:30, Apr. 1-Oct. 15; otherwise varies. Boat tours are given daily at noon, 2, 4 and 5, May-Oct. Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
