James Madison Museum of Orange County Heritage is at 129 Caroline St. The museum honors James Madison, the fourth president of the United States and chief architect of the Constitution. Exhibits detail his life and contributions to the American political system and include such items as Madison memorabilia, antique farm tools and agricultural implements. The museum also features artifacts relating to the eight Virginia-born presidents; a 1733 farm house; and a Ford Model T, sleighs and other vehicles. The Black History Room highlights African-Americans from the American Revolution through the post-emancipation period, while rotating exhibits cover local history and culture.
