This venerable spot has been a local institution since 1939 and now new owners have brought it new life. There's a crisp coat of white paint, and the original pressed-tin ceiling and the walls are decked with historical photos and Civil War artifacts. The menu is classic Southern lunch counter with sandwiches, chili dogs, meatloaf, chicken 'n dumplings and country-style sides. Of course, there's all-day breakfast and fresh pies, cake and cobbler. You won't find a friendlier staff.
