Museum of the Middle Appalachians is 8 mi. n.e. on SR 107, following signs off I-81 exit 35. The museum houses rocks and minerals, historical photographs of Saltville; exhibits chronicling the Ice Age, including a full-size model of a mastodon; and Civil War relics. Interactive videos about the Civil War are offered. In addition visitors can scrutinize an impressive collection of Woodland Indian artifacts. Also featured are exhibits describing the wetland environment of the Saltville Valley. Time: Allow 45 minutes minimum.
$3; $2 (ages 6-12 and 55+).
Hours: Mon.-Sat. 10-4, Sun. 1-4. Closed Jan. 1, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
