AAA Editor Notes
Walton’s Mountain Museum is at 6484 Rockfish River Rd. The museum is in the former Schuyler Elementary School, across the street from the boyhood home of Earl Hamner Jr., creator of “The Waltons.” Re-creations of sets include John-Boy’s bedroom, the family kitchen and living room and Ike Godsey’s store. The Script Room contains a show script displayed on a podium. The Recipe Room features a moonshine still and information about the Baldwin sisters' “recipe.” The Exhibit Room displays models of things seen on “The Waltons” and items from the 1930s and '40s as well as objects made of soapstone, a stone once quarried in Schuyler. The Military Museum Room contains items from World War I through the conflict in Iraq. A 30-minute audiovisual presentation precedes the self-guiding tour.
