Beware! Overcharges galore!
Pros: It was a calm, quiet environment. The employees were friendly and attentive, the kitchen well equipped, the room recently remodeled, hotel built in 2006 I believe, and the room, pool area and hotel grounds well manicured. Adequate laundry area (4 washers and 4 dryers). The hotel is dog friendly. We had to leave early and free breakfast was ready at 6 am. Bathroom had a small vanity with drawer space, bed was comfortable.
Cons: Be advised, if leaving a day early, tell the desk clerk or you will be charged a set fee for the night. We had to leave early and fortunately I told the desk clerk the day before. However, the morning I left $235 was randomly added to the bill and I was overcharged for the room and not the $139 booking.com advertised. The desk clerk said she could not remove the $235 nor could they tell me what it was for. They said booking.com gave them the charges and said I would have to take it up with booking.com, show proof of the agreed room rate and only the manager who was not on site could remove the $235. Also the charge for the room was listed as $159 and not the $139 as booking advertised, plus Virginia state tax and an occupancy tax. I was charged $159, $145, $145 and $139 for 4 nights I stayed. Ultimately, the manager removed the additional charge of $235 stating it would take 7-10 days to reimburse, but I would not correct the room overcharge. I am still owed $32 plus state and occupancy tax. The hotel blamed booking.com stating they could not see what booking.com was charging, then said booking.com changes the rate day to day, didn't I know that..., and asked if I had proof to show them what the charge should have been. The whole thing was a "shell game" (confusing and clearly I would not get my money back) and the room overcharges were never resolved. It appeared that this Marriot and booking.com do not have a clear understanding and the employees didn't know how to deal with it. Last the room was advertised as a queen "suite" but it the room had a queen bed, kitchenette, small (no pull out) sofa and no separation. Just a regular room. No pull up area in front of the hotel to unload, all parking was filled - suggest they reserve these for incoming guests. Pool area was small 6 lounge chairs and two round tables with 4 chairs each. Not for for big groups to gather.
