Surry Nuclear Information Center is 10 mi. e. on SR 10 to SR 650, then 5 mi. n. to 5570 Hog Island Rd. Innovative displays and interactive exhibits illuminate the science behind nuclear-generated electricity. Using muscle power, visitors produce electricity with a bicycle generator or control the power level in a model reactor core. They also can measure radioactivity with a Geiger counter, learn about nuclear power from uranium mining to electricity generation, and take the carbon footprint challenge to see what impact their lifestyle has on the Earth.
