National Air and Space Museum is on the National Mall at 6th St. and Independence Ave. S.W. One of the world's most popular museums, it shares stories of where people have been, where they're going and how to get there.

Eight updated galleries chart humanity's path to go higher, faster and farther with artifacts, including the 1903 Wright Flyer, Neil Armstrong's Apllo 11 spacesuit, supersonic aircraft and other technology that connects humankind. Stories have been expanded to give a more complete and inclusive picture — encompassing achievements by women, people of color and others whose contributions were previously untold.

Exhibits to explore include The Wright Brothers and the Invention of the Aerial Age, Early Flight, America by Air, One World Connected, Destination Moon, Nation of Speed, Kenneth C. Griffin Exploring the Planets, and Thomas W. Haas We All Fly. Also available is a planetarium, showing films throughout the day; fees apply.

Note: The eastern half of the museum is off-view for renovation; the museum remains open. Timed-entry passes are required. Galleries and public spaces will be introduced in phases in 2024 and 2025. A new Besos Education Center also is scheduled for construction.

Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
