AAA Editor Notes
Colonial Parkway links Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown. Protected from modern development, this 23-mile scenic highway winds along the James and York rivers, passing through tidal estuaries and pine and hardwood forests.
From the Jamestown Visitor Center the parkway follows the James River before turning inland to Williamsburg, where it tunnels under the restored city. Just beyond the tunnel is the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center. Traveling overland, the parkway passes plantation sites along the York River and ends at the Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center. Turnouts, most with explanatory markers, allow pauses for more detailed observation.
The speed limit is 45 mph or as posted; there are no service facilities, and commercial vehicles are not permitted.
