AAA Editor Notes
Harbor History Museum is at the n. end of the downtown waterfront at 4121 Harborview Dr. The main gallery has permanent themed exhibits on local history, south Puget Sound Native Americans, pioneer settlers, water transportation, early industrial development, commercial fishing and bridging the Tacoma Narrows. Video kiosks featuring thousands of historic images and hands-on displays augment the exhibits.

The Maritime Gallery displays the restored 65-foot fishing vessel Shenandoah (currently under restoration) and the hull of a Thunderbird, a type of sailboat developed in Gig Harbor in 1958. Outside is the restored Midway Schoolhouse. The one-room school operated from 1893 to 1941; it contains period furnishings, books and charts.
