Stonehenge Memorial

Stonehenge Memorial is 1 mi. e. of jct. US 97 and SR 14, then .7 mi. s. On a cliff overlooking the Columbia River, this concrete reproduction of the famous and mysterious prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, England, was built in 1918 as a memorial to the men of Klickitat County killed in World War I. It was constructed 40 years before the position of Stonehenge was decoded for astronomical measurement and therefore is not exact. Also at the site is the crypt of the monument's builder, Maryhill founder Samuel Hill, and the Klickitat County War Memorial.
