AAA Editor Notes
Cape Disappointment State Park is 3 mi. s.w. off US 101. Capt. John Meares named this headland in 1788, which reflected his feelings upon not discovering the fabled Northwest Passage. The park is part of Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, and within its boundaries is Fort Canby; built in 1852, it guarded the entrance to the Columbia River and was Washington's first military installation.

Trails lead through the forest to isolated coves and broad sandy beaches. The park offers a wide range of recreational activities. The Cape Disappointment Lighthouse, commissioned in 1856, is the oldest lighthouse in the state.

Guided tours are available. Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted. Food is available.
