North Head Lighthouse, within Cape Disappointment State Park, 3 mi. s.w. off US 101, was built in 1897 and crowns its namesake promontory overlooking the Pacific. In 1853 the sailing ship Vandalia foundered on the rocks just north of the light on Beards Hollow. Tours of the lighthouse are offered. Closure Information: The lighthouse will be closed through 2016 for maintenance. The grounds remain open. Note: Children under 7 years are not permitted on the lighthouse tour. Guided tours are available.
Lighthouse $2.50; free (ages 7-17). Park admission $10 (per private vehicle); Discover Pass, valid for 1 year, $30 (per private vehicle).
Hours: Daily 10-5:30, May 1-Labor Day; hours vary rest of year. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
