AAA Editor Notes
Elwha River Valley, in Olympic National Park, is accessible via a paved road off US 101, 8 mi. w. of Port Angeles. The valley extends for 45 miles from the river's headwaters near Mount Olympus to its outlet into the Strait of Juan de Fuca. With the removal of the Glines Canyon Dam, restoration of the Elwha River watershed is currently ongoing. Olympic Hot Springs Road leads to the Glines Canyon Spillway Overlook, the area once flooded by the dam. Interpretive exhibits detail the area's history and ongoing restoration process. Whiskey Bend Road, a 4.5-mile dirt road just past the Elwha Ranger Station, offers access to a trailhead.
