Yakama Nation Cultural Heritage Center is .5 mi. n.w. on US 97, s.w. on Buster Rd., then w. to 100 Spiel-yi Loop. It contains a winter lodge/meeting hall, theater, library and research center. The 76-foot-high Winter Lodge, a stylized version of an ancient Yakama design, dominates the campus. Dioramas and exhibits in the 12,000-square-foot Yakama Nation Museum chronicle the history of the Yakama Nation's tribes. There are additional displays on Native American leaders and dwellings inhabited by the Plateau People, along with historical photographs, audio narrations and music. Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
$6; $4 (ages 11-18, ages 55+ and active military with ID); $2 (ages 0-10); $15 (family, two adults and two children). Guided tour additional $25.
Hours: Museum open Mon.-Fri. 8-5, Sat.-Sun. 9-5. Guided tours Mon.-Fri. by appointment. Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving, day after Thanksgiving and Christmas.
