Shafer Museum is off SR 20 at 285 Castle Ave. Structures from the pioneer era include a log cabin built by town founder Guy Waring in 1897 that contains period furnishings, print and millinery shops, a barn, an assay office, a schoolhouse, a settler's cabin and doctor's and dentist's offices complete with antique medical equipment. Early 20th-century mining and farm equipment, a 1914 Model T touring car and a rare Rickenbacker car—of the 80 Rickenbackers produced, only 30 survive—also are on display.
