Spruce Knob is w. of SR 28 via SR 33/4 about 2.5 mi. s. of Riverton. Spruce Knob is the highest point in West Virginia at 4,861 feet. Numerous overlooks provide scenic views on the road to the summit, which features an observation tower and an interpretive trail.
Nearby Spruce Knob Lake is stocked with trout and offers good fishing, especially during the spring and fall.
Note: The road is twisting and steep and can be dangerous especially during hazardous driving conditions; caution is advised. The road should not be attempted by inexperienced drivers.
Camping is permitted.
