AAA Editor Notes
Kettle Moraine State Forest—Southern Unit is 3 mi. w. of the village of Eagle; forest headquarters are at S91 W39091 SR 59. The 20,000-acre, 30-mile-long southern unit runs from Dousman, Wisconsin, to a point near Whitewater. With an array of habitats ranging from glacial hills, lakes, and prairie to pine and hardwood forests, the area is popular with outdoor sports lovers who enjoy mountain biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and winter hiking/snowshoeing trails as well as the Ice Age National Scenic Trail.

The forest is also home to Old World Wisconsin (see attraction listing), a state historic site with restored 19th-century buildings. The headquarters for both the southern and northern units of the state forest are located here; a museum offers interpretive programs.

Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
