AAA Editor Notes
Fairlawn Mansion is off US 2/53 to 906 E. 2nd St. The 42-room mansion overlooking Lake Superior was built in 1890 as the family home for lumber and mining baron Martin Pattison and his wife Grace. Fairlawn recalls the elegance and prosperity of Superior's early boomtown days as well as the mansion's unique history as the Superior Children's Home and Refuge 1920-62.

The first-floor rooms have been restored, revealing the lavish use of carved wood, marble, silver trim, brass, English tile and Victorian paintings. A permanent children's home exhibit is housed on the museum's third floor.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
