Hearthstone Historic House Museum is at 625 W. Prospect Ave. Hearthstone was the first house in the world to be lit by a water-powered electric central station using the Thomas Edison System. Visitors can explore electricity in the hands-on hydroadventure center. The restored 1882 structure contains period furniture, intricate woodwork, Minton tiles and original light switches and fixtures designed by the Edison Co. Special events, including Victorian Christmas, as well as changing exhibits are offered. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Fee $8; $5 (ages 5-17). Christmas tours $9; $6 (ages 5-17).
Hours: Guided tours depart Thurs.-Fri. 10-3:30, Sat. 11-3:30, Sun. 1-3:30. Closed last two weeks in Jan.
