International Crane Foundation is .3 mi. e. on 8th Ave., 5 mi. n. on CR A, then .8 mi. w. to E11376 Shady Lane Rd. This nonprofit center works worldwide to conserve cranes and the wetlands, grassland and other ecosystems on which they depend. According to the foundation, it maintains the world's only collection of all 15 crane species. Visitors can see rare whooping cranes in a natural wetland and learn about the Wisconsin-based whooping crane reintroduction program. The Spirit of Africa contains four outdoor exhibits featuring magnificent African cranes. Interpretive nature trails wind through a restored tallgrass prairie and oak savanna. Guided tours are available.
