Black River State Forest is e. on US 12. The forest encompasses 68,700 acres of diverse habitats and is home to a herd of elk. It lies in a transitional zone between Wisconsin's Driftless area and its glaciated central plain, which contributes to its unique geology. The forest offers camping, hiking, mountain bike trails, ATV riding, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, cross-country skiing, hunting, fishing and several other activities.
Vehicle permits are required in designated areas.
Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
