Black River State Forest is e. on US 12. The forest encompasses 68,700 acres of diverse habitats. It lies in a transitional zone between Wisconsin's Driftless area and its glaciated central plain, which contributes to its unique geology. The forest offers camping, hiking, mountain bike trails, ATV riding, cross-country skiing, hunting, fishing and several other activities. Vehicle permits are required in designated areas. Pets on leash are allowed. Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
Park $11 (per out-of-state private vehicle); $8 (per in-state private vehicle); $4 (per in-state private vehicle with resident senior age 65+). Annual permit $38 (per out-of-state private vehicle); $28 (per in-state private vehicle); $13 (per in-state private vehicle with resident senior age 65+). Fees are charged for camping, bicycling and cross-country skiing.
