The University of Wisconsin-Madison is on the shores of Lake Mendota at the end of State St. Opened in 1848 with 17 students, the university now occupies a 935-acre campus with an enrollment of more than 43,000. The Kohl Center Arena, on campus at 601 W. Dayton St., is home to the university's basketball and hockey teams, while Camp Randall Stadium, 1440 Monroe St., hosts Big Ten football games. The Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery Town Welcome Desk is at 330 N. Orchard St. and the Campus and Community Information Welcome Desk is at Union South, 1308 W. Dayton St.
