Wisconsin Maritime Museum is off I-43 exit 152, 4 mi. e. on US 10, then 1 mi. s. to 75 Maritime Dr. The museum's 12 galleries are dedicated to the maritime heritage of the Great Lakes region and the submarine culture of the area. Operate a steam engine, learn how ships navigate through locks, view life in a re-created 19th-century shipbuilding town and tour a restored World War II submarine, the USS Cobia, which is docked at the museum. In the Children’s Waterways Room, youngsters can build model boats to navigate through miniature rivers and locks. Adults and children can experience the thrill of landing a “big one” at the realistic, multimedia sport fishing simulator. Allow 2 hours minimum for the museum, 1 hour additional for the submarine.
(includes the USS Cobia) $12; $10 (ages 6-15).
Hours: Museum daily 9-6, July-Aug.; daily 9-5, mid-Mar. through June 30 and Sept.-Oct.; Mon. and Thurs.-Fri. 10-4, Sat.-Sun. 9-4, rest of year.
