Villa Louis is 1 mi. n.w. at 521 N. Villa Louis Rd. on St. Feriole Island. Villa Louis was the 19th-century home of the Dousman family, who made a fortune in the fur trade and through timely investments in land, steamboats and railroads. Four buildings in the mansion complex are open, exhibiting a collection of Victorian decorative arts original to the property. Restoration has replicated many original wallpapers, textiles and decorative treatments reflecting the design of William Morris and the British Arts and Craft Movement.
In addition to guided tours of the mansion complex, visitors may also tour the restored grounds and gardens and the Fur Trade Museum. Tours begin in the elevated visitor center and are conducted by costumed guides.
Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
