Waukesha County Museum is at 101 W. Main St. at East Ave. Housed in an 1893 castle-like building downtown, the former courthouse features three floors of changing displays and interactive exhibits about the American Civil War, early technology, dollhouses, antique toys, architecture, fur trading and the area’s historic mineral springs. Les Paul: The Wizard of Waukesha chronicles the life of the inventor of the Gibson solid body electric guitar and sound-on-sound recording. Nationally touring exhibits also are hosted at the museum. Vintage photos and records are available in the museum’s research center. Note: The museum is undergoing renovations and is scheduled to reopen in 2018; phone ahead to confirm schedule.
