AAA Editor Notes
Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park is in the Ohio River, reached by sternwheeler from Point Park on Second Street. Harman Blennerhassett, an Irish aristocrat, built his island mansion in 1798. He became involved with Aaron Burr in an alleged plot to establish an empire in the Southwest and was forced to flee the island with his family in 1806 when the conspiracy came to light. Both men were eventually acquitted of treason, but their lives were ruined.

Fire destroyed the abandoned mansion in 1811. The Palladian-style house has been reconstructed upon its original foundation, and guided tours of the interior are offered. Narrated horse-drawn wagon rides recount the island's history.

Picnicking is permitted. Food is available. Time: Allow 3 hours minimum.
