National Historic Trails Interpretive Center is off I-25 exit 189, then 1 mi. n. to 1501 N. Poplar St. Seven galleries represent Western trail history through interactive and multimedia exhibits and dioramas. Visitors can sit in a covered wagon and experience a simulated crossing of the North Platte River. A five-screen theater features an audiovisual presentation illustrating pioneer and Native American life. During the summer months, encampment reenactments take place and interpreters in period costume perform demonstrations. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
$6; $5 (ages 62+); $4 (students ages 16+ with ID).
Hours: Tues.-Sun. 8-5, late May-early Sept.; Tues.-Sat. 9-4:30, rest of year. Closed most federal holidays; phone ahead.
