AAA Editor Notes
Anthropology Museum (Museo Regional de Antropología) is on Paseo Montejo at Calle 43. It is housed in the Palacio Cantón, the former home of Mérida's prominent Cantón family. The museum has an extensive collection of stone carvings, figurines and relics, including jade and gold objects retrieved from the Sacred Cenote at Chichén Itzá. Particularly interesting are the sections devoted to daily Mayan life, showing how babies' heads were elongated and how teeth were filed to achieve their rather bizarre standards of beauty.

Exhibit information is mostly in Spanish.
