City Hall

City Hall (Palacio Municipal) is on Calle 62 on the w. side of Plaza de la Independencia. More commonly known as the Ayuntamiento, it was built atop a Mayan pyramid. The exterior, yellow with white trim, shows a Moorish influence, and the clock tower is typical of Mexican government buildings. Adjoining it is the Olimpo, a cultural center with space for concerts and art exhibitions; schedules for upcoming performances are posted on the bulletin board in the pretty courtyard.
