Peón Contreras Theater

Peón Contreras Theater (Teatro Peón Contreras) is on Calle 60 between calles 57 and 59, just n. of Cepeda Peraza Park (Hidalgo Park). It was built in the early 20th century in the grand Italianate style of European opera houses. The main entrance features a staircase of Carrara marble, and the interior is typically and richly ornate. Changing exhibitions feature the work of contemporary painters, sculptors and photographers from all over Mexico. This venue for the performing arts also houses a tourist information center that is a good place to find out what's going on around town.
