Nunnery

Nunnery (Casa de las Monjas) faces the western stairway of the Pyramid of the Magician. Get thee to these long, low buildings that surround a large quadrangle and stand in the center of the courtyard to appreciate the overall harmony that prevails, even though the structure is terraced and on different levels. The exteriors of each wing have beautiful decorative details, including stone masks of Chac (recognized by their elongated noses), entwined serpents, mosaic patterns and latticework designs. The southern wing has an arched entryway, once the complex's main entrance.
