Discovery Claim National Historic Site is 14.8 km (9.3 mi.) s. on Bonanza Creek Rd. Signs along a walking trail portray the story of gold mining at Bonanza Creek—the site of the 1896 gold discovery which sparked the Klondike Gold Rush. A historical marker at Km-post 17.71 identifies the town of Grand Forks, which had a population of 5,000 during its prime. Interpretive trail brochures, smartphone applications and tablet rentals are available in the visitors center.
