AAA Editor Notes

Cathedral faces the s. side of Plaza de Armas. Begun in 1612 and completed in 1752, it is one of the ultimate expressions of the Mexican baroque style. The extravagant exterior carvings of pink cantera sandstone are notable. This is still an active church, and Mass is held daily.
Free.
Hours: Open for services (closes after dark); there is no tour schedule, but visitors can enter the building and quietly look around.
