Percé
Although dormant for a half-century, the site's sheltered location eventually drew enough fishermen to make Percé an important fishing port. While the wharves are still busy with lobster boats, the town also has become a popular destination for visitors to the Gaspé Peninsula.
Starting from behind the Church of St-Michel, the hiking trails of Mont-Ste-Anne, the grotto and the crevice allow walkers to explore the mountains of Percé and discover spectacular landscapes. A detailed map is available at the tourism bureau office.
The scenic drive around the mountains starts at the west end of the village, by turning north on Route des Failles. At the intersection where St. Paul's Anglican Church is located keep north and follow the very steep hill. You will then drive on a sinuous mountain road for about 5 kilometres (3 mi.) until you reach Route 132. You turn east to go back to Percé village. Along the 5 kilometre (3 mi.) drive back to Percé the road passes the Mont-Blanc, the Overlook, the Big Bowl, the Pic of Dawn, the Three Sisters Cliffs and a spectacular view of the natural Amphitheater of Percé.
For scuba-diving enthusiasts, the nautical center of Percé offers equipment rentals, a diving school and snorkeling and scuba sites. Rental sea kayaks also are available. For information about whale-watching tours contact the Percé Tourism Bureau.
