Angel Mounds State Historic Site

Angel Mounds State Historic Site is off I-164 Covert Ave. exit at 8215 Pollack Ave., following signs. Eleven earthen mounds are preserved at this 103-acre archeological site, once a thriving community of the Mississippian culture. Several thousand people occupied the land along the banks of the Ohio River A.D. 1000-1450. Dwellings and ceremonial structures have been reconstructed, and an interpretive center displays excavated artifacts. Some 500 wooded acres surrounding the site offer hiking trails and a nature preserve. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
