Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park surrounds the town of Borrego Springs in the far south central part of the state. The park's visitor center is at 200 Palm Canyon Dr. Encompassing more than 630,000 acres of the Colorado Desert, the park features a desert landscape that often blooms with a colorful display of annuals in spring. Points of interest include Borrego Palm Canyon; Butterfield Overland Stagecoach Road; the fossil-laden Carrizo Badlands; Font's Point; Split Mountain; Seventeen Palms Oasis and several canyons. A visitor center, built into a hillside, provides literature and detailed maps as well as displays about the park's geology, history, desert plants and wildlife. An award-winning film, A Year in the Desert, is shown every 20 minutes. Winding through the park are 500 miles of dirt roads and more than 100 miles of riding and hiking trails. Pets on leash allowed in designated areas. Note: Check with the visitor center for road conditions before leaving the pavement. Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
