Dead Horse Point State Park

Address not available, Moab, UT, 84532

Dead Horse Point State Park is 9 mi. n. via US 191, then about 23 mi. s.w. on SR 313. According to legend, a band of wild mustangs was once herded into a natural corral created by cliffs and rock formations and inadvertently left to die of thirst in view of the Colorado River—hence the name. The point offers a striking panorama of the pinnacles, buttes and sandstone cliffs of the Colorado River canyon and the meandering river 2,000 feet below. Sun and changing weather conditions combine to lend the cliffs a range of colors. Recreational activities include camping, hiking and mountain biking. A visitor center also is on site. Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
