Donner Memorial State Park

12593 Donner Pass Rd., Truckee, CA, 96161

Donner Memorial State Park, 2 mi. w. on Donner Pass Rd., is near the site where the ill-fated Donner party was stranded trying to cross the Sierra Nevada Mountains during the severe winter of 1846-47. The park visitor center has exhibits about the Chinese emigrant experience, construction of the railroad and early motoring adventures over Donner Pass. The Pioneer Monument is near the museum. One- to 2-hour guided hikes are offered in summer; phone ahead to confirm availability. Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted.
