Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park

Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park, at the s.w. end of the island at 601 Howard England Way, was built 1845-66 as part of Florida's coastal defense system. The cannons within the walls constitute one of the largest collections of Civil War armaments. Swimming, fishing and picnicking on a tropical beach are among the recreational activities available. Pets are not permitted inside the fort or in swimming areas. Guided tours are available. Recreational activities are permitted. Picnicking is permitted. Food is available. Time: Allow 3 hours minimum.
