Garden of the Gods Park

1805 30th St., Colorado Springs, CO, 80904

Garden of the Gods Park, n.w. off US 24 on 31st St. or w. off I-25 on Garden of the Gods Rd. to 30th St., is a 1,323-acre city park at the base of Pikes Peak, where the Great Plains meet the Rockies. Flora and fauna within the park reflect the rich diversity of this crossroad. In 1909, railroad magnate Charles Elliot Perkins bequeathed to the city the parkland he purchased in 1879 with the stipulation that it remain open and free to the public. The park is known for its towering red sandstone formations, which include Kissing Camels and Balanced Rock. The soft sunlight of early morning and late afternoon enhances the beauty of the formations. Beautifully framed snapshots of Pikes Peak are available from many viewpoints. In addition, the park offers a diverse list of recreational options. Visitors can explore miles of both paved and unpaved trails and try mountain biking, horseback riding and guided nature walks. The park’s many footpaths have easy slopes. Visitors safe on the ground can watch climbers scale the cliffs. Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
